HTTP Proxy
One of the biggest advantages of using MariConnect UTM in a VSAT environment is the HTTP Proxy feature. The Proxy caches all web content that is fetched through the VSAT link and stores it on its hard drive. Next time a cached website is visited most of the content is fetched locally from the appliance, instead of the network, saving 30-40% of bandwidth usage. The web content also gets displayed much quicker (1-2 seconds, instead of 60-70 seconds) giving the user a much faster response, resulting in a substantially better surfing experience.
Uplink Failover
The MariConnect box can do automatic failover between uplinks. For example if a VSAT connection becomes nonfunctional, the MariConnect box automatically routes Internet traffic to a secondary uplink, Iridium OpenPort for example, without any manual configuration. If requested, only specific traffic can be routed through the secondary uplink, for example only the computer in the bridge. A backup link makes it easier to troubleshoot the VSAT system link.
